The Best Father’s Day Gift

June 17, 2017

That was easy. A Google search for “The Best Father’s Day Gift” returned over 6 million solutions, narrowing it down pretty quick! This weekend celebration turns to all things dad. The hardware store has a selection of grills on sale and the anchor store at the mall has great deals on rugged watches and colognes. These stores are hoping your feeling of love, appreciation, or guilt will compel you to purchase larger items to express your feelings.

While you might not have the time to peruse all 6 million websites, most Americans still feel a pressing desire to get dad the perfect gift. The one he uses for years or brags about for decades. And in that desire for legacy is found the tension that makes most mortals throw up their hands in desperation and buy dad another tie. Because one good way to honor dad is by giving him a noose he can tie around his neck and parade around the office.

What if the best Father’s Day gift didn’t cost you any money? Some of you just perked up a little bit. What if the gift you offered dad was good even if he has passed away? Ephesians 6:2 reminds us to honor our Father. Don’t quit reading now but consider the conclusion and see if you agree. Honoring dad doesn’t mean we have to be just like him. It doesn’t mean you have to lie to yourself about his shortcomings. It doesn’t mean you have to follow in his line of work. In fact some times, honor can best be demonstrated by choosing not to develop habits or characteristics that are ungodly. Commit today to honor your dad by pursuing Jesus Christ with all that you are. Commit today to honoring you dad by growing in the training and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4, NKJV). When you do, you’ll never regret it.
