“Getting Ready”

September 22, 2017

Most of us look forward to time away from work with great anticipation. Imagine if you were going to fill those days climbing Mt. Everest. (Don’t stop reading; you aren’t required to do any actual climbing.) You would spend your days in preparation for the big event. Check to make sure you are in the physical shape it takes to accomplish this feat. Check and double check to make sure your gear is rated to withstand the harsh circumstances. Check the tickets you’ll need for airfare and to make sure you have a Sherpa lined up. And the list of things to get ready would consume a lot of your time.

Looking at the calendar this time of year can bring about a false sense of security. The children are back in school, summer is over but it hasn’t snowed yet, and the weather isn’t too hot or too cold. But a few flips of the calendar reveals that January isn’t very far away. And with January comes a desire for new habits, new desires, and new results. The statistics aren’t favorable when it comes to people keeping New Years Resolutions – over 50% last less than 2 months. Make 2018 the year that breaks the mold.

One way to change this up is to begin preparing for success now. Decide what you want to do in 2018 and set some goals in place to begin working towards. If you want to impact your neighbor’s world with the life-changing message of hope from the Scriptures, begin developing those relationships now. Perhaps your goal is to read through the Bible in year; start reading smaller sections today to develop the habit. Pray that God will use your life as a catalyst for others coming to know Him. This is His goal for us. He loves your neighbors and desires you to love them enough to go to them. Take some time this week to seek God’s path for your life over the next year. When you do, He will lead you right (Proverbs 3:5-6), and you’ll never regret it.
