“It Never Gets Old”

November 3, 2017

Have you ever heard someone say, “That never gets old”? The reasons for this declaration are many and might stem from eating a favorite food, visiting with a great friend, or reminiscing with grandma. Each of these settings offers a series of satisfying emotions and fulfillment and our soul will always want to dwell in these places. From the contentment of the moment our heart declares it’s desire to repeat the action.

Last weekend, I had one of these “never gets old” moments. Our Foundation Student Ministry group is designed for Middle School and High School students. We are blessed in that we have students regularly attend who don’t have a church background. The Youth Leaders here at Hillcrest truly are on the front lines for our church. Weekly, they stand in the gap and offer hope, purpose, and acceptance to students craving this. The situations facing the next generation are quite a bit different that what previous students dealt with. And on Sunday night, two students committed their life to following Jesus. That never gets old.

This commitment is significant in a lot of ways. It reminds us that God’s Love still shines. It also underscores the truth that Jesus’ sacrifice is still sufficient for the problems of the next generation. And we know that this will change both the path and destination for these two. I read Romans 8:12-17 recently and was over joyed at the reality that two of our students are now children of God. That will never get old.

Will you keep the youth and leaders of Hillcrest in your prayers? We need God to encourage and keep them so they stay faithful to the task. Will you thank God for the work He is doing here at Hillcrest? This is a great reminder of why we do what we do. Will you reach out to someone who needs hope and purpose? Although it might be awkward or difficult, know that throughout eternity, you’ll never regret it.
